Received 2010 National Science Foundation Honor

In 2010, received an Honorable Mention for my Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) proposal. NSF received over 12,000 submissions that particular year; 2,025 research proposals were selected for Honorable Mention and 2,000 were awarded fellowships.

Fullerton College Social Awareness Documentary Film Festival - 2008

I used the medium of film to "Promote Change Through Awareness" by giving students the opportunity to look outside their everyday surroundings and become aware of cultural diversity and social issues from around the world. It was my hope that students seeing the films would be moved to take action by becoming involved in organizations supporting issues reflected in the film festival documentaries.

Each film screening featured a guest speaker from a related organization in the Los Angeles area who addressed the audience on current issues related to that film screening.

Informative handouts were created and handed out to the audience that had volunteering opportunities, links to informational websites and current news articles on the particular issue being reflected in each film.
